Surface Water Program
Meridian’s Surface Water Program provides oversight over multiple issues including storm water management as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Construction General Permit (CGP) for City Capital projects, floodplain management and administration, and Meridian’s obligation to provide oversight for the 24 miles of streams and riparian resources located within the City.
The City of Meridian has four creeks which flow thought the City boundary (Five Mile, Eight Mile, Nine Mile and Ten Mile).
Together with numerous other drains, ditches and canals, these water bodies serve a multitude of functions including irrigation water delivery, irrigation drainage water removal, and flood water conveyance. Under Federal Regulatory oversight, under programs such as the Clean Water Act and the National Flood Insurance Program, Meridian is responsible to ensure that development in and around these water bodies is performed in a environmentally responsible manner while meeting the regulatory requirements.
