City Council - Joe Borton

Joe Borton has spent the past twenty years raising his family and building his business in Meridian. Joe has served eleven years on the Meridian City Council and for a portion of that time as the Council president. Joe’s City Council service emphasizes functional transparency and collaboration.
Joe has donated his time and energy to serving the Meridian community for many years, including serving as a board member and president of the West Ada Education Foundation, and as a board member and president of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, where he was a youth mentor (a "big") for eleven years for which he was selected as Idaho’s “Big of the Year” in 2001. Joe has also led our business community both as a downtown business owner and as a past board member and President of the Meridian Chamber of Commerce.
Joe is the managing partner of the downtown Meridian law firm of Borton-Lakey, where his legal practice is focused on business formation, land use, civil litigation, and local politics. In 2019, he was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Joe holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics, with honors, from the University of Oregon, and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Idaho.
