Valley Regional Transit to resume service on three ValleyRide bus routes starting Monday, May 4

Three ValleyRide bus routes in Boise and Garden City that suspended service on March 27 will resume operations beginning Monday (May 4) Valley Regional Transit (VRT) has announced.

The routes that will resume service are 11 Garden City, 16 VA/Hyde Park, and 17 Warm Springs. With this resumption of service, all ValleyRide bus routes in Boise and Garden City will be in operation.

Service on the three routes was suspended because of a drop in ridership that resulted from Governor Brad Little’s March 25 stay home order, and insufficient space to stage all ValleyRide buses due to the closure of Main Street Station. Today, the governor’s stay home order was replaced with a “Stay Healthy Order,” and VRT expects an increased demand for commuter transportation as a result. VRT also has secured additional space to stage more buses near Main Street Station.

Main Street Station, the Happy Day Transit Center in Caldwell, and the VRT administrative offices in Meridian will remain closed to the public.

Valley Regional Transit (VRT) remains strong in its commitment to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus while providing essential transportation services to the public. Tactics to ensure social distancing include a temporary suspension in collecting fares and requesting that riders enter a bus from the rear doors when possible. Once inside the bus, passengers are being asked to sit as far away from other passengers as possible. If there are too many people on a bus to ensure adequate social distancing spacing, additional buses can be brought into service. Passengers are also being asked to wear face coverings when riding ValleyRide buses or ACCESS paratransit vehicles.

VRT operates 18 routes in Boise/Garden City, three routes in Nampa/Caldwell, and four routes that operate between Ada and Canyon counties. The only route that is not in operation is the 55 CWI Shuttle.
