Walking Tour

Updated in 2014, the Meridian Historic Walking Tour highlights some of the historic properties in Downtown Meridian. The new tour is self-guided, and takes walkers through the streets of Downtown Meridian and transports them to yesteryear with information about Meridians history, including current and former buildings and residents. Brochures and historic signage are equipped with QR codes to give those with smart phones access to a full multi-media presentation featuring additional photos and video.

“It is important that we remind ourselves of our heritage and the importance our history has played in shaping the community we are today,” said Mayor Tammy de Weerd. “This walking tour gives the public, both young and old, the opportunity to explore the wonders of Meridian’s history in a fun and engaging way.”

Use the links under "Historic Walking Tour" located to the left to access additional information for each historic property. We invite you to come to Meridian City Hall, pick up a free brochure, get outside and enjoy the tour firsthand. Young historians can practice their map reading skills to locate the properties and will have fun locating the historic sidewalk markers located in front of each property. They will love watching mulit-media presentations by local students on a smart phone or tablet as QR codes in the brochure are scanned and videos are viewed. Historians of all ages will enjoy learning about early residents from videos featuring Meridian Historian, Lila Hill. Be sure to bring your smart phone or tablet to experience the full tour.

While you are taking the tour, maybe stop in and visit one of our locally owned shops and see all that downtown has to offer. Please enjoy and celebrate the history of Meridian.
