In Meridian, our drinking water comes from any of the 25 wells located throughout the City that draw groundwater from deep underground aquifers.

The City stores 4 million gallons of drinking and emergency reserve water. We rely on water storage to aid in maintaining water service during peak demands, such as early mornings and evenings, as well as fighting fires.

We have our water system divided into five separate pressure zones to maintain water pressure to our customers’ homes. Water pressure increases as elevation drops. Without defined pressure zones, pressures could easily exceed 200 psi in the lowest areas of town. We target between 55 and 80 psi which is just right for normal home use and to prevent damage to plumbing.

A Cross Connection is a link between a consumer’s drinkable (potable) water and potentially contaminated water lines, such as irrigation lines, private wells or tree and flower planters. To maintain it, get it inspected and tested annually by a licensed Backflow Tester.

Dual connections are physical connections between drinking water lines and pressurized irrigation water lines. Connections between these two different sources can be dangerous as irrigation water is not meant for direct consumption. Thus, Dual Connections are not allowed and must be removed (per City Resolution 10-763).
